Dr. Veronica Cruz
Dr. Cruz’s Veterinary Journey
Dr. Veronica Cruz graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Her passion for veterinary medicine centers on advocating for animals and honoring their place in our families. As she shares, “To me, nothing feels more rewarding than being an advocate for those without a voice of their own.” She is an IVAS graduate in acupuncture and a Certified Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapist (CVSMT). Mentoring younger veterinarians through difficult cases and surgical challenges also gives her a lasting sense of purpose and keeps her excited about her work.
Dr. Cruz’s Career & Experience at Sploot
As a Clinic Medical Director at Sploot Veterinary Care in Chicago, Dr. Cruz has special interests in surgery and integrative medicine. Growth opportunities are her favorite part of working at Sploot. She began as a relief veterinarian, became a Clinic Medical Director, and more recently took on the role of Chicagoland Surgery Mentor. In this role, she helps younger veterinarians strengthen their surgery and anesthesia skills, building confidence in performing more advanced procedures.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, Dr. Cruz practices Kundalini yoga to support her mental balance and physical flexibility, enjoys gardening in her small Chicago yard, and frequently visits family in Mexico. She is a devoted pet parent to three memorable personalities: Gordo, her senior Miniature Pinscher and self-appointed head of the household; Dharma, a 2-year-old, 70-pound bully who wishes she were a 4-pound Poodle; and Mixtli, a 2-year-old, three-legged Sphynx cat who joined her family through Sploot.
